Fire Destroys SUV On Highway 75 Near Maurice

Maurice, Iowa — An SUV was destroyed in a fire on Thursday, February 17, 2022, near Maurice.

According to Maurice Fire Chief Jeff Vander Weide, about 5:25 a.m., the Maurice Fire Department was called to the report of a vehicle fire along Highway 75 at Maurice.

The chief says the fire department saw the vehicle was fully involved as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Vander Weide says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined. He tells us the driver told him the SUV was acting up so they pulled over and got out, and then the SUV started on fire.

Chief Vander Weide reports that the SUV was totaled in the blaze. He says traffic was detoured through Maurice while fire crews dealt with the fire due to the smoke that was reducing visibility on the highway.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about half an hour.
