Sioux County, Iowa — A pair of barn fires in northern Sioux County this past weekend are being investigated by the Iowa Fire Marshal’s Office.
According to Iowa Fire Marshal Andrew Giere, the first blaze was reported shortly after midnight Sunday morning at 2945 Grant Avenue, northwest of Hull. Firefighters from Hull and Rock Valley responded to that blaze. Then, less than 24-hours later, and just about 3-1/2 miles away, another barn fire was reported, at 2818 310th Street. Departments responding to that blaze included Rock Valley, Hull, Sioux Center and Doon.
Fire Marshal Giere tells KIWA that he has inspected both scenes and finds the are suspicious due to their close proximity to one another, and to the fact they happened almost exactly 24-hours apart.
As of mid-day Thursday, Giere says the cause of both fires is yet to be determined, but he says they are still under investigation due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the blazes.
