Sheldon, Iowa — A Kissimmee, Florida man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Sheldon on Friday, December 16, 2022.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 7:10 a.m., 64-year-old Manuel Pons of Kissimmee, Florida was driving a 2014 Freightliner semi northbound on Highway 60, roughly three miles north of the Highway 18 exit.
According to the report, the driver said the truck was loaded with empty totes and was very light. There was a winter storm in the area at that time. The road surface was 100% ice and winds were steady at approximately 25 miles per hour with gusts over 40 miles per hour, according to the trooper’s report. The Sheldon Community Ambulance Team (SCAT) took Pons to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.
The Freightliner semi sustained $50,000 in damages.
