Sheldon, Iowa– A Hull woman and three of her passengers were taken to the hospital after an accident in Sheldon on Friday, October 10, 2025.
The Sheldon Police Department reports that at about 7:10 p.m., 22-year-old Nidia Ramirez of Hull was driving a 2021 Chevy westbound on 11th Street, in the southern section of the central part of town. They tell us that 16-year-old Anttony Zapata of Ashton was southbound on 8th Avenue in a 2006 Dodge.
The report says that Zapata stated he did not see Ramirez because of a tree. He also said that he did not yield at the posted yield sign, causing him to strike Ramirez in the intersection. Ramirez also stated that Zapata did not yield at the intersection.
SCAT took Ramirez and three passengers in her vehicle, 28-year-old Nuvia Ramirez, 15-year-old Manuel Ramirez, and 81-year-old Paula Garcia, to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.
Zapata and his passengers were not transported to a hospital.
Ramirez’s Chevy sustained $5000 in damages, and Zapata’s Dodge sustained $10,000 in damages, which was enough to total the Dodge.
Zapata was charged with failure to obey a yield sign.
