Four Taken To Area Hospitals After Saturday Evening Crash

O’Brien County, Iowa — Four people were taken to area hospitals after crashing their minivan on an icy O’Brien County road Saturday evening.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, about 8:15 Saturday evening, a 2019 Dodge Caravan minivan, driven by 38-year-old Francis Kanas, of Salem Oregon, was westbound on 400th Street, about a half mile east of Vine Avenue, when Kanas hit the brakes due to icy roads, causing the minivan to begin to slide. The van crossed the center line and entered the south ditch, finally coming to rest in a cornfield.

Deputies say Kanas and a 31-year-old female passenger were taken to the Spencer Hospital by Hartley Ambulance, while two other female passengers, 41-years-old and 21-years-old, were taken to the Primghar Hospital by the Sutherland Ambulance.

Damage to Kanas’ minivan was estimated at $5,000.
