Friday Afternoon Collision East Of Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — A Hartley woman was taken to the hospital following a 2-vehicle collision that happened Friday afternoon just east of Sheldon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol Crash Report, the mishap took place shortly before 4:00 Friday afternoon at the corner of Highway 18 and Oak Hill Avenue, east of Sheldon.

Troopers say 35-year old Sheila Peelen of Sanborn was eastbound on Highway 18 in a 2011 Dodge Durango, and had slowed for other eastbound traffic that was preparing to turn, when her SUV was struck from behind by a 2016 Nissan Sentra, driven by 22-year old Alisha Biggar of Hartley. Biggar reportedly told troopers she had looked down to put a CD into her radio, and as she took her eyes off the road inadvertently accelerated slightly.

Biggar was reportedly taken to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center to be checked out. Peelen was uninjured.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Biggar was cited for Failure to Stop in an Assured Clear Distance.
