Friday Crash Sends Two To Sibley Hospital

Ashton, Iowa — A New Ulm, Minnesota woman and a Sibley man were taken to the hospital after an accident near Ashton on Friday, December 10, 2021.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 2:45 p.m., 48 -year-old Meredith Schladweiler of New Ulm, MN was driving a 2020 Honda southbound on Highway 60, at the northeast corner of Ashton. They say 42-year-old Richard Aiser of Sibley was eastbound on 230th Street in a 2005 Ford.

The report says that Aiser pulled onto Highway 60 southbound with the intent of crossing the lanes and turning northbound on the northbound lanes of Highway 60, but the trooper says he failed to yield the right of way to the Schladweiler vehicle as it was traveling southbound on Highway 60. The trooper says Schladweiler attempted to stop but could not. The front of Schladweiler’s car impacted the side of Aiser’s. The report notes that blowing snow was impacting the area at the time of the accident.

Osceola County EMS took both Aiser and a passenger in the Schladweiler vehicle, 23-year-old Kathleen Frank, to Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.

Schladweiler’s Honda sustained $20,000 in damages, and Aiser’s Ford sustained $5000 in damages, which was enough to total both vehicles.

Aiser was charged with failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way, no valid driver’s license, and no insurance.

Deputies from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Osceola County EMS EMTs, and the Ashton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
