George Firefighters Extinguish Burning Car; Car Totaled In Blaze

George, Iowa — A car was destroyed in a fire on Saturday night, February 26, 2022, in George.

According to George Fire Assistant Chief Josh Eben, about 10:45 p.m., the George Fire Department was called to the report of a car fire at 308 East Iowa Avenue in central George.

The assistant chief says the fire department saw the car with a fire in its engine compartment as they approached the scene. He says the fire was also extending to the dash of the car.

Assistant Chief Eben says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be mechanical in nature, and that the older passenger car was totaled in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene about 45 minutes.
