Ashton, Iowa — A George woman’s minivan was destroyed late Friday afternoon after being struck by a train near Ashton.
Osceola County authorities say their deputy arrived on the scene of a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of 210th Street and Highway 60 shortly after 4:30 Friday afternoon, and observed a 2003 Chrysler minivan, driven by 26-year old Rosalba Alatorre Padilla, of George. Deputies say the minivan had gone into the ditch, and drove over the top of the railroad track, coming to rest against a solid driveway, with the rear end of the minivan hanging over the railroad track.
As the scene was being investigated, the Deputy says he observed a southbound Union Pacific train north of the accident scene. He says the train was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the minivan. Fortunately, according to the deputy’s report, Albatorre Padilla was not inside the van when it was struck by the train.
According to authorities, Albatorre Padilla was treated, and released, for minor injuries at the scene, by the Osceola County Ambulance Service, and was not transported to the hospital.
Deputies estimate the minivan to be a total loss, and estimated damage to the Union Pacific train to be about $1-thousand.
Albatorre Padilla was reportedly ticketed for Failure To Provide Proof of Financial Liability.
