Goat Barn Damaged In Inwood Area Fire

Inwood, Iowa — A goat barn was damaged in a fire on Thursday, April 21, 2022, near Inwood.

According to Inwood Fire Chief Troy Van Beek, at about 3:30 p.m., the Inwood Fire Department was called to the report of a structure fire at 1992 Cleveland Avenue, three miles north and one east of Inwood.

The chief says the fire department saw smoke and flames as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire, first from an exterior attack, then an interior.

Van Beek says six goats were lost in the blaze but two were saved by the owner.

The Larchwood Fire Department assisted on the scene.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be related to a heat lamp over one of the pens.

Chief Van Beek reports that about fifty percent of the building was totaled.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.

A couple of other fire calls went out Thursday in northwest Iowa. Sioux Center Fire Captain Kent Hoogendoorn says the Sioux Center firefighters extinguished a small ditch fire that got into a grove at 723 Ninth Street Southwest. And Hull Fire Chief Ron Hoksbergen says they were called out to what turned out to be an intentional fire near Perkins. He reminds people to call their sheriff’s office’s non-emergency number to tell them that they are going to be burning. Because even if there’s someone right next to the fire, some well-intentioned citizen will call in the fire and the fire department may have to be sent out unnecessarily.
