Sutherland, Iowa — The investigation into a business burglary last weekend in Sutherland has landed a Hartley man in jail facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
According to court records, 42-year-old Christopher Joe Collins is accused of breaking into JTV Manufacturing in Sutherland this past weekend, and making off with more than $1,000 in cash and change before leaving the facility.
Officials say video surveillance images from the business’ security cameras led officers to seek a search warrant for a residential address in Sutherland. Court records say when officers executed that warrant they allegedly discovered evidence tying Collins to the burglary. Officers also say they discovered methamphetamine during their search, so applied for a second search warrant for the narcotics.
As a result of the search, court records say Collins faces charges of 3rd Degree Burglary, A Class D Felony; 3rd Degree Theft, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; along with two counts of Possession of Methamphetamine, both of which are Class D Felonies.
Online jail records indicate that Collins was taken to the O’Brien County Jail, and later released on bond.
