Hawarden Man Faces Five Felony Counts In Regard To Burglary And Theft Cases

Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden man has been arrested on a warrant for several felony charges after a number of incidents in that community.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 32-year-old Billy Phillips of Hawarden is accused of several crimes. He was arrested on a warrant on Wednesday.

In his statements, the deputy says Phillips is accused of being in possession of two counterfeit $20 bills. He says messages were found on Phillips’ Facebook page in which Phillips admitted to manufacturing the bills. The deputy accuses Phillips of stealing a wire spool, burglarizing a number of storage units and stealing property, being in possession of numerous articles of property stolen from a church in Hawarden, being in possession of two portable two-way radios and the batteries for them, as well as a wired microphone valued at about $1600 all belonging to one of Phillips’ former employers, being in possession of a ladder that was constructed in a manner to allow Phillips to gain access to storage units not leased by him, and being in possession of a stolen wire spool.

Phillips was charged with five felony counts, including forgery, two counts of third-degree burglary, and two counts of second-degree theft, all class D felonies. If convicted, Phillips could face up to five years in prison on each count. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of burglar’s tools and fourth-degree theft.

No court dates have yet been set in the case.

At last report, Phillips remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $30,000 cash or surety bond.
