Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden teen was taken to the hospital after an accident in Hawarden on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.
The Hawarden Police Department reports that about 6:00 p.m., 60-year-old Karla Johnson Kooi of Sioux Center was driving a 2007 Ford pickup westbound on Highway 10, in Hawarden. They say 19-year-old Jade Owings of Hawarden was northbound on Highway 12 in a 2006 Chevy.
The report says that as both units approached the intersection, Johnson Kooi allegedly failed to yield from the stop sign and struck the Owings Chevy in the rear passenger quarter panel causing damage to both vehicles.
The Hawarden Ambulance took Owings to Hawarden Regional Hospital.
Johnson Kooi’s Ford pickup sustained about $4500 in damages, and Owings’s Chevy sustained about $5000 in damages.
