Hawarden Woman Taken To Hospital After Crash In Hawarden

Hawarden, Iowa– A Hawarden woman was taken to the hospital after an accident in Hawarden on Monday, April 14, 2025.

The Hawarden Police Department reports that at about 6:25 a.m., 18-year-old Levi Brown of Mapleton was driving a 2019 Chevy pickup westbound on Highway 10 (or 10th Street) in Hawarden. They tell us that 42-year-old Betty Bajardo of Hawarden was southbound on Highway 12 (or Avenue E) in a 2011 Buick SUV.

The report says that Brown looked down to check the map on his phone, which showed the route to his destination. The officer says Brown did not stop at the stop sign, which was partially obscured by other traffic signs upon approach. Bajardo struck the Brown pickup broadside on the passenger side rear. The pickup was spun around and rolled onto the driver’s side, coming to rest on the south side of the road. Bajardo’s SUV came to rest just south of the pickup.

The Hawarden Ambulance took Bajardo to Hawarden Regional Health Hospital.

Brown’s Chevy pickup sustained $15,000 in damages, and Bajardo’s Buick SUV sustained $10,000 in damages. Both vehicles were considered totaled and were towed from the scene.
