Hawarden Woman Taken To Hospital After Falling Into A Well

Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden woman was taken to a hospital after she apparently fell into a well.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says their communications center received a 9-1-1 call about 9:30 Friday morning, reporting that someone had fallen into a well outside of a home on Birch Avenue, four miles northeast of Hawarden.

The Hawarden Fire Department, Hawarden Ambulance Squad, Hawarden Police Department, and Sioux County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

Upon further investigation, responders discovered that 33-year-old Yesenia Torres of Hawarden accidentally stepped into the well and fell approximately 10 feet to the bottom. Authorities tell us that the well was dry at the time of the incident.

Torres was rescued from the well by personnel from the Hawarden Fire Department who used an emergency ladder designed for tight-quarter rescue situations. They say she was transported by the Hawarden Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Healthcare for treatment of minor injuries.
