CORRECTION: Head-on Collision Just North Of Spencer Claims Two Lives

Spencer, Iowa — The Iowa State Patrol has issued a correction in regard to an accident that took two lives near Spencer on Friday.

Originally, the patrol stated that 70-year-old Randall Dykstra of Everly was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado northbound, and 45-year-old Bridget Baird of Milford was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue southbound in the northbound lane.

On Monday, the Patrol issued a correction, stating, “Upon further investigation, it has been determined that the Chevrolet Silverado operated by Randal Dykstra of Everly Iowa was southbound in the northbound lanes of US 71. The Nissan Rogue operated by Bridget Baird of Milford, Iowa was northbound on US 71. The purpose of this is to correct previous reporting[;] and any reference relating to Bridget Baird traveling south in the northbound lanes should be corrected. This collision will remain under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol”

Spencer, Iowa – Two people died in a head-on crash early this (Friday) afternoon on Highway 71 just north of Spencer, about a half mile north of the North Y.

The Iowa State Patrol says 70-year-old Randall Dykstra of Everly was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado northbound and 45-year-old Bridget Baird of Milford was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue southbound in the northbound lane.

Both Dykstra and Baird were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer Fire and Rescue and the Fostoria Fire Department assisted on the scene, along with a towing service.

The collision took place a little before 1:00 pm. It resulted in the highway in that area being shut down for several hours.
