Hog Barn Burns Near Little Rock Early Monday

Little Rock, Iowa — A hog barn was damaged in a fire on Monday, September 22, 2025, near Little Rock.

According to Little Rock Fire Chief Austin Kannegieter, at about 5:15 a.m., the Little Rock Fire Department was called to the report of a hog barn on fire at 1143 Lily Avenue, two miles west and about three miles north of Little Rock.

The chief says the fire department saw smoke and some flames toward the back of the building as they approached the scene.

Kannegieter says the building had no livestock in it at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The Little Rock Fire Department was assisted by George firefighters.

He says he believes the cause of the fire was a heater malfunction, and the pit gases caught flame.

Chief Kannegieter reports that there was at least $150,000 in damage.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about three hours and 45 minutes.
