House Receives “Significant” Damage In Larchwood Fire

Larchwood, Iowa — A house was damaged in a fire on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in Larchwood.

According to Larchwood Fire Chief Tony DeSmet, at about 11:25 p.m., the Larchwood Fire Department was called to the report of a house on fire at 1221 Broadway in Larchwood.

The chief says the fire department saw the rear of the house on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used a combination of exterior and interior attacks to fight the fire.

DeSmet says no injuries were reported, as everyone was able to evacuate the home.

The fire department was assisted by the Inwood Fire Department and the Larchwood Emergency Medical Service.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature. He thinks it might be related to a heat lamp.

Chief DeSmet reports that there was significant damage. He says the home is uninhabitable for now.

He tells us the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about three hours.

According to the chief, a gofundme page has been set up to assist the victims.
