Hull, Iowa — A Hull man was arrested after his car rolled and caught fire early on Sunday morning.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 12:45 am Sunday morning, 18-year-old Kaelin Hinderks of Boyden was driving a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan eastbound on 300th Street, three miles east of Hull. According to the report, Hinderks lost control of the vehicle, entered the north ditch and rolled. The vehicle then came to rest in a farm field where it started on fire but Hinderks was able to exit the vehicle.
Hinderks was injured in the accident but declined further medical attention.
The Dodge received $1,500 damage.
Upon further investigation, deputies suspected that Hinderks was under the influence of alcohol and discovered alcohol in his possession.
Hinderks was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was cited with charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, person under the legal age in possession of alcohol, failure to provide proof of insurance and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department, Hull Fire Department and Hull Ambulance.
