Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Rock Rapids man has been charged with 2nd Degree Arson in connection with a car fire that happened back on July 7th.
Lyon County authorities say the arrest was made after further investigation into events that took place in the early hours of July 7th. They say that according to their initial investigation into an underage drinking party at a Rock Rapids residence, an altercation took place between 20-year old Alex Bradley McIlvenna and another partygoer. Authorities report that, several hours after the altercation the Rock Rapids Fire Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a car fire in the 500 block of South Randall Street in Rock Rapids. According to the Sheriff’s Office, an investigation at the scene of the car fire determined that the vehicle had intentionally been set on fire.
Deputies say a charge of 2nd Degree Arson, a Class C Felony, was filed against McIlvenna on Sunday, July 29th. At the time the charge was filed, McIlvenna was reportedly being held in the Lyon County Jail on other charges. His bond is currently set at $12-thousand cash or surety, according to authorities.

Rock Rapids, Iowa — The investigation into an underage drinking party has resulted in criminal charges against two Rock Rapids residents.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, their investigation into a July 7th party in Rock Rapids revealed the source of the alcohol that was consumed during the party, and they say, the source had also brought a controlled substance to the party and attempted to distribute it.
Authorities say that investigation led to a search warrant that was executed at a residence in Rock Rapids. Deputies say the investigation and search warrant led to the arrest of two Rock Rapids residents.
The Sheriff’s Office says they arrested 64-year old John Diener on a charge of Felon In Possession of a Firearm, a Class D Felony, Possession of a Controlled Subtance, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.
Authorities say the other individual arrested was 20-year old Alex McIlvenna, who was arrested on Tuesday (July 10th) on unrelated charges, and lodged in the Sioux County Jail. Cops say that after his arrest in Sioux County, Lyon County applied for arrest warrants on 6 counts of Supplying Alcohol To Persons Under Legal Age, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, all Serious Misdemeanors. In addition McIlvenna was reportedly charged with Possession With Intent To Deliver a Schedule IV or V Drug To a Person Under the Age of 18, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, as well as Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, both Simple Misdemeanors. Authorities say McIlvenna’s bond was set at $93-hundred cash or surety.
Lyon County authorities say their investigation into the incident continues, and more charges are expected.
