Iowa DOT Truck Destroyed In Fire Near Hospers

Hospers, Iowa — An Iowa Department of Transportation dump truck was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, near Hospers.

According to Hospers Fire Chief Jason Overmole, at a few minutes after 3:00 p.m., the Hospers Fire Department was called to the report of a vehicle fire a half mile south of 420th Street on McKinley Avenue– the county line road, two miles east and two and a half south of Hospers.

The chief says the fire department saw the cab was fully engulfed, with fire also in the engine bay as they approached the scene. He says the DOT truck was also pulling a trailer with a payloader on it, but the fire was limited to the truck itself.

Overmole says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by Granville firefighters, as per their auto-aid agreement

He says the driver told him smoke started rolling out from under the dash, so that’s where they think the origin of the fire was.

Chief Overmole reports that the DOT truck was totaled in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
