Sioux Center, Iowa — An Ireton teen was injured shortly after noon Thursday, when his car rear-ended a pickup in southern Sioux Center.
According to the Sioux Center Police Department, the mishap occurred when a 2004 Cadillac, driven by 17-year-old Connor Graff of Ireton was southbound on Main Avenue (Highway 75) and struck the rear of a 2017 Chevrolet pickup, driven by 74-year-old Leslie Brommer of Sioux Center, that had stopped before making a left turn.
Graff reportedly told officers that he saw the Brommer truck, but his car’s brakes had failed and traffic in the outside lane had prevented him from changing lanes to avoid the collision. However, police say a witness told them that they never saw brake lights on the Cadillac come on until “just a fraction of a second” before impact, according to the accident report.
Police say Graff was taken to the Sioux Center Hospital for an ankle injury after the crash. Neither Brommer nor Graff’s passenger were injured.
Damage to Brommer’s pickup was estimated at $12,000, with an estimated $5,000 damage to Graff’s Cadillac.
Police reportedly cited Graff for Failure to Stop in an Assured Clear Distance in connection with the crash.
