Sanborn, Iowa– A Lake Park man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Sanborn on Friday, January 3, 2025.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 11:50 a.m., 43-year-old James Husman of Lake Park was driving a 2007 Mitsubishi eastbound on Highway 18, about two miles east of Sanborn. They tell us that 46-year-old Paul Mazur of Paullina was also eastbound on 18 in a 2019 International semi owned by Vander Haag’s, Inc.
The report says that Husman attempted to pass Mazur, and while doing so, another 18-wheeler traveling westbound surprised Husman as to being too close. Husman took evasive action and left the roadway to the left (the ditch), steered back to the roadway, lost control of his vehicle, then re-entered the roadway and under-rode Mazur’s semi-trailer. Both vehicles came to rest on the roadway, blocking the eastbound lane.
An ambulance took Husman to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.
Husman’s Mitsubishi sustained $3000 in damages, and Mazur’s International semi sustained $5000 in damages.
