Larchwood, Iowa — A Larchwood man faces a felony charge after an incident on Saturday.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court by the county sheriff’s office, on Saturday evening, 44-year-old Leonard Nathan Young of Larchwood was found to allegedly be operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The deputy says when he met Young, Young did not dim his headlights. When the deputy was behind Young, Young allegedly crossed the fog line and did not stop or slow down when the deputy activated the patrol car’s emergency lights or siren.
The deputy says when he finally did stop, Young allegedly admitted to drinking and also allegedly had an odor of an alcoholic beverage about him. He submitted to field sobriety tests, says the deputy, and the results were over the legal limit. He was charged with operating while intoxicated, third offense, which is a class D felony, along with misdemeanor charges of driving without a valid license, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and failure to dim headlights.
According to court records, he faces a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, November 23rd. If convicted of a class D felony, Young could face up to five years in prison.
