Las Vegas Woman Taken To Hospital, Then To Jail After Accident

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Las Vegas woman was taken to the hospital and then to jail after an accident near Sioux Center on Thursday, August 1st.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 2:25 a.m., 25-year-old Jocelyn Penado of Las Vegas, Nevada was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry southbound on Harrison Avenue, two miles southeast of Sioux Center, when she lost control of the vehicle, which entered the east ditch.

The Sioux Center Ambulance took Penado to Sioux Center Health.

Upon further investigation, deputies discovered that Penado had allegedly taken the Toyota from a South Dakota resident without their permission.

Upon release from medical care, Penado was charged with operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, no proof of insurance, and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

Deputies say alcohol is also believed to be a factor and the case remains under investigation.
