Man Accused Of Assaulting O’Brien County Jailer Faces Felony Charge

Primghar, Iowa — A Waukee man faces a felony assault charge after an incident at the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Daniel Coonfield of Waukee is accused of assaulting a jailer in May of this year. He was arrested on Friday.

In his statement, the deputy says Coonfield punched a person whom he knew was a jailer, with the intent to cause serious injury.

Coonfield was charged with assault on persons in certain occupations, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

He faces a preliminary hearing on Friday, October 24th.

At last report, Coonfield remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
