Man Arrested On Warrant For Sexual Abuse That Allegedly Occured In Hawarden In 2021

Hawarden, Iowa — A Lawton man has been arrested on a warrant for a felony sex abuse charge after an incident four years ago in Hawarden.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Hawarden Police Department, 38-year-old David Mohning of Lawton is accused of sexual abuse. He was arrested on a warrant on Thursday.

In her statement, the officer says that she received a report of a past sexual assault on March 19th of this year. According to the victim, on July 4, 2021, Mohning sexually assaulted them while the victim and Mohning were heavily intoxicated.

Mohning was charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony. If convicted, he could face up to ten years in prison.

He faces a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, October 21st.

Mohning was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City and was released the same day after posting a $10,000 bond.
