Le Mars, Iowa — Plymouth County authorities have now released the name of the victim killed in a grain bin accident about five miles west of Le Mars Tuesday morning.
Authorities say 65-year-old Daniel Cronin was inside a grain bin loosening stuck corn. Officials say Cronin had safety measures in place, but was pulled into the corn when the crust broke.
Upon their arrival, fire and rescue units from Le Mars, Oyens and Remsen attempted to rescue Cronin from the corn, but were unable to do so. His body was recovered about an hour later.

Le Mars, Iowa — A man is dead after being trapped in a grain bin Tuesday morning, July 21st, near Le Mars.
Plymouth County authorities say they received an emergency call shortly before 10:00 Tuesday morning, about a man trapped in a grain bin located approximately five miles east of Le Mars. They report that Oyens, Le Mars and Remsen Fire & Rescue, along with Le Mars and Remsen Ambulance were dispatched to the location.
Deputies say that, upon arrival, they learned a 65-year-old man had been inside the grain bin loosening stuck corn. Authorities report that the individual had safety measures in place, but was still pulled into the corn when the crust broke.
According to authorities, when fire units arrived a rescue operation was started, but it proved to ultimately be unsuccessful. The body of the victim was recovered shortly before 11:00 Tuesday morning.
Deputies say the Iowa State Patrol and Plymouth County Medical Examiner’s Office also assisted at the scene.
Authorities say the name of the victim is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
