Akron, Iowa — The driver of a semi has died as a result of a crash on Thursday morning near Akron.
According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, at about 8:45 a.m., their emergency center received a report of a single-vehicle accident on C38 near Fawn Avenue. That’s four miles east, five south, and two more east of Akron.
Plymouth County authorities say the accident was reported as a semi rollover with the driver trapped inside. Akron Fire, Akron EMS, and Plymouth County Deputies were dispatched to the scene.
An investigation at the scene led investigators to believe that a semi pulling a grain trailer was traveling east on C-38 near Fawn Avenue. They say the semi left the roadway, driving onto the south shoulder and then into the south ditch, where it rolled onto its passenger side.
The driver, who was trapped, was removed from the semi by Akron Fire and was transported to Mercy One Hospital in Sioux City with serious injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Mercy One Hospital in Sioux City. They tell us the man’s identity is not being released at this time.
