Maurice, Iowa — The Maurice Fire Department was called out for a fire on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, near Maurice.
According to Maurice Fire Chief Jeff Vander Weide, firefighters were called out about 2:25 p.m., to the report of a field fire near 490th Street and Highway 75, about two miles south of Maurice.
Lots of smoke and some flames could be seen as firefighters arrived. He says they used water to fight the fire, which thankfully wasn’t spreading too quickly. He says the farmer had been burning the terrace for weed control when the wind picked up and the fire got away from him, so he called 911.
Vander Weide says no injuries were reported, and no mutual aid was required.
Chief Vander Weide reports that the damage was limited to the terraces.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for between half an hour and 40 minutes.
