Northwest Iowa — A Minnesota man who led Iowa State Patrol Troopers on a high-speed chase Sunday morning ended up in a South Dakota Jail.
According to a release from the Iowa State Patrol, About 7:40 Sunday morning Trooper Terry Dykstra attempted to stop a 2015 Acura TLX which he had clocked at 114 miles per hour in 65 zone. Authorities say the driver refused to stop, and headed westbound on Highway 9 across Osceola and Lyon Counties at speed up to 133 miles per hour.
According to the release, Iowa troopers terminated the pursuit near the Iowa/South Dakota line.
According to a spokesman for the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Iowa officials called South Dakota troopers to assist with the pursuit, but the driver eluded officers.
A little while later a resident of Brandon, South Dakota called law enforcement to report a white car in the gully behind her house. According to South Dakota troopers they confirmed that the car was the same Acura that had eluded authorities earlier, and that it had been reported stolen from Minnesota. Troopers then reportedly began a search of the area and found the car’s driver hiding in a grove of trees where he was placed under arrest.
South Dakota authorities identify the arrested individual as 25-year-old Cody Schwendeman or Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. South Dakota authorities say Schwendeman was transported to the Minnehaha County Jail in Sioux Falls, where he was turned over to jail personnel.
