Mississippi Man Charged With Fraud, Theft In Lyon County

Larchwood, Iowa — A Mississippi man has been arrested on fraud and theft charges after he allegedly deposited a fake check.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 22-year-old Jerimiah Malone of Oxford, Mississippi was arrested on Thursday, December 14th, 2023.

In his statement, the deputy says that in July of this year, Jerimiah Malone received funds from a fraudulent check that had been made to look like a check issued by Agile Manufacturing LLC, the parent company of Miller Loaders of rural Larchwood. The deputy says the check for $9,988.06 was not a genuine check from Agile Manufacturing. He says it was a check that had been fabricated to appear as it was from Agile Manufacturing. The back of the check was signed by Malone, and it was deposited into Malone’s personal bank account.

Malone was charged with second-degree theft and second-degree fraudulent practice, both class D felonies. If convicted, Malone could face up to five years in prison on each count.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Friday, December 22nd, 2023.
At last report, Malone remained in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
