Le Mars, Iowa — Plymouth County authorities have released the name of a man whose body they recovered Saturday evening at a rural swimming area.
According to a press release, at 7 p.m. Saturday, a call of a missing person and possible drowning came to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office.
A 27-year-old man, who has now been identified as Gerardo Mendoza Coria, had reportedly been swimming with friends and went missing. The sheriff’s office and Plymouth County Dive Team were dispatched to Kellen’s Ponderosa, a swimming lake south of Le Mars.
Mendoza Coria’s body was recovered by authorities, and a medical exam ruled the cause of death as drowning.
The Le Mars Police Department, Le Mars Fire and Rescue, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Sioux County Dive Team assisted at the scene.
