Hudson, South Dakota — One person was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital as the result of a motorcycle accident near Hawarden on Tuesday.
The Lincoln County South Dakota Sheriff’s Office reports that shortly before 11:15 on Tuesday morning, May 7th, 2019, a motorcycle rider was riding a motorcycle on Highway 46 near 485th Avenue, six miles north and a mile west of Hawarden. They report that the motorcycle may have experienced some equipment failure causing the rider to lose control and crash. The rider was not wearing a helmet and sustained serious injuries. They report that the rider was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital by helicopter and that the accident is still under investigation.
The sheriff’s office also reports that good Samaritans helped at the scene, including an off-duty nurse, who stopped to render first aid and help with traffic control. The sheriff’s office says the Hudson Ambulance Squad, Hudson Fire Dept, Hawarden Ambulance Squad, Hawarden Fire Department, Sanford AirMed and Carlson’s Towing assisted with the response to the accident.
