One Vehicle Accident Leaves One Injured

Lyon County, Iowa — An Estherville woman was injured early Sunday when the vehicle in which she was a passenger went out of control and crashed into a ditch near Larchwood.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that 18-year-old Melissa Marie Hall, of Superior, Iowa, was eastbound on A-26, near Birch Avenue in a 2003 GMC Envoy SUV. Due to the icy road conditions, deputies say Hall lost control of the vehicle, spun in the roadway, and entered the north ditch where the SUV rolled onto its passenger side.

According to authorities, a passenger in the vehicle, 55-year-old Joanne Lorraine Callaro, of Estherville, was transported to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls for treatment of injuries.

Deputies estimate damage to the Envoy at approximately $4,500.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Larchwood Fire and Rescue and the Lyon County Ambulance.
