Orange City, Iowa — An early-morning disturbance in Orange City led to an arrest and multiple charges on Tuesday, December 23rd.
According to the Orange City Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after 4:00 a.m. to the 300 block of 5th Street Northwest for a reported disturbance.
Police say 24-year-old Jeremias Joel Morales Chavez of Sioux Center allegedly entered a home without permission and refused to leave when directed by the occupants. They investigated and officers believe that Morales Chavez had assaulted a female victim after entering the home.
While taking Morales Chavez into custody, officers tell us they located a THC vape pen in his possession. He allegedly admitted the vape pen contained marijuana.
Morales Chavez was arrested and charged with burglary in the third degree, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of trespassing – first offense, and possession of marijuana – first offense.
The Orange City Police Department says the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office assisted them.
Morales Chavez faces a preliminary hearing on December 30th.
At last report, he remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
