Orange City Man Taken To Hospital After Accident Near Hawarden

Hawarden, Iowa — An Orange City man was taken to a hospital after an accident on Monday northeast of Hawarden.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that 19-year-old Jesus Fernando of Hawarden was driving a 2012 GMC Acadia northbound on K18, three miles northeast of Hawarden. They tell us that 30-year-old Justin Mills of Orange City was driving a 2012 Mazda westbound on B46.

The report says Mills failed to stop for the stop sign at K18 and struck Fernando in the intersection.

Damage to the Mazda was estimated at $8,000. The Fernando GMC sustained approximately $10,000 in damage.

The Hawarden Ambulance took Mills to Hawarden Regional Healthcare.

Mills was cited on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign. Fernando was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

The sheriff’s office says the Hawarden Fire Department and Hawarden Ambulance Squad assisted them with the response to the accident.
