Paullina Man Faces Felony Drug, Other Charges After Sheldon Police Find Him Sleeping In Car

Sheldon, Iowa — A Paullina man has been arrested on a felony drug charge in Sheldon.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 37-year-old Marc Gibbons of Paullina is accused of the third or subsequent possession of a controlled substance and not cooperating with an officer. He was arrested on Saturday.

In his statement, the officer says he found Gibbons’ vehicle running with him sleeping in the driver’s seat. He says Gibbons failed several field sobriety tests. Then, while Gibbons was being detained, the officer says he attempted to run away and was brought to the ground, where a tussle took place. During the search, the officer says he found a container with a pipe and white crystalline substance, as well as a knife with a blade longer than five inches in length.

Gibbons was charged with possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence, interference with official acts (bodily injury), and possession of a dangerous weapon while committing a felony.

He faces a preliminary hearing on August 13th.

At last report, Gibbons remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar in lieu of bond.
