Sutherland, Iowa — A Paullina man was taken to the hospital after crashing his motorcycle south of Sutherland late Saturday afternoon.
According to the accident report from the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 5:00 Saturday afternoon (September 11th) 69-year-old William Rice of Paullina was southbound on Highway 10, about 2 miles south of Sutherland, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road, entered the south ditch, hit broadside on the embankment and hit a barbed wire fence, ending on its left side. Deputies say Rice told them the bike didn’t seem to be operating correctly prior to the accident.
Rice was transported to Cherokee Regional Medical Center by the Sutherland Ambulance. His passenger, 63-year-old Barb Rice of Paullina, reported minor injuries but was not transported.
Deputies estimate damage to Rice’s 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle to be about $5,000.
