Primghar Woman Taken To Hospital; Car Believed To Have Flipped Five Times

Primghar, Iowa — A Primghar woman was taken to the hospital after an accident near Primghar on Friday, February 21, 2020.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 12:40 a.m., 52-year-old Sheila Lyman of Primghar was driving a 2018 Chevy eastbound on B40, two miles west of Primghar.

The report says that the driver of a non-contact semi-truck stated that Lyman slowed down and was serving at times. The driver of semi-truck passed Lyman and shortly afterward saw a “flash” and then did not see any more headlights. The driver of the semi called 911 to report the accident.

The deputy arrived on the scene and located Lyman in the field north of B40. The Lyman car appeared to have flipped end over end several times before coming to a rest on its wheels. The deputy’s report says he smelled a strong odor of alcohol and vomit coming from the driver’s breath.

The report goes on to say that Lyman was alert but injured.

Deputies believe Lyman entered the north ditch, where her car went airborne over Redwood Avenue and landed nose-first. He says it appears to have flipped end over end approximately five times before landing on its wheels.

The Primghar Ambulance took Lyman to Mercy One – Primghar Hospital.

Lyman’s Chevy sustained $10,000 in damages, which was enough to total the car

The deputy says charges are pending the results of the blood sample given by Lyman.
