Reports Of Dangerous Driver Lead To Arrest

Rock Valley, Iowa — Reports of a dangerous driver led to the arrest of a Hull man early Sunday afternoon.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, their Communications Center received calls from motorists reporting a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling eastbound on Highway 18, about six miles east of Rock Valley. The callers reportedly stated that the SUV nearly entered the ditch, swerved back onto the roadway, narrowly missing striking a bridge pillar before it re-entered the ditch again, came back onto the roadway and stopped on the traveled portion of Highway 18.

Sioux County Deputies say they located the vehicle and upon further investigation, determined that the driver, who authorities identified as 36-year-old Miguel Ortiz of Hull allegedly didn’t have a valid driver’s license, they reportedly also discovered an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, and suspected Ortiz was under the influence of alcohol.

Authorities say they charged Ortiz with Operating While Intoxicated, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Valid Driver’s License, and Having an Open Container of Alcohol in a Vehicle.

Sioux County deputies were assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department.
