Rock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley man and two children were taken to the hospital after an ATV accident on Saturday morning.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 10:20 a.m., 64-year-old Leon Kooima of Rock Valley was driving a 2011 Honda Rancher ATV on a farm property at 3177 Eagle Avenue, a half mile southwest of Rock Valley. Onboard the ATV with Kooima were two children passengers.
The report says the accident happened when one of the children unexpectedly pushed the throttle. The ATV accelerated and struck a fence post.
The Rock Valley Ambulance took Kooima, 8-year-old Breslyn Kooima of Rock Valley, and 2-year-old Kullen Hiemstra of Sioux Center to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.
The ATV sustained approximately $800 in damage.
The Sheriff’s Office says the Rock Valley Police Department and the Rock Valley Ambulance crew assisted them.
