Seward County, Kansas — A Rock Valley woman has died in an accident in Kansas over the weekend.
According to the Hays (Kansas) Post, the Kansas Highway Patrol reports that just before 8:30 a.m. Saturday, a 2021 Ford F350 driven by 73-year-old Stanley Wayne De Weerd of Rock Valley was westbound on U.S. 54 just east of U.S. 83, in Liberal, Kansas. Liberal is 245 miles southeast of Colorado Springs, or about 135 north-northeast of Amarillo, Texas, on the Kansas-Oklahoma panhandle border.
The pickup struck the driver’s side of a 2022 Kenworth semi driven by 41-year-old Emmanuel Terrell Lee Jimmerson of North Las Vegas, Nevada, who was exiting from the Love’s Travel Stop western entrance, initiating a left turn to travel east on U.S 54.
A passenger in the pickup, identified as 72-year-old Arlis Kay De Weerd of Rock Valley, was pronounced dead at the scene. EMS transported Stanley De Weerd to Wesley Medical Center and Jimmerson to Southwest Medical Center. All three were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
