Rock Rapids, Iowa — What began as the report of a traffic accident ended with the arrest of a Rock Rapids woman on a pair of felony charges and one misdemeanor charge.
According to court records, a Lyon County deputy responded to the report of a rollover crash south of Rock Rapids. The responding deputy says that as he pulled up to the scene, 44-year-old Mandy Lynn Davis of Rock Rapids was driving away from the scene with three juvenile passengers. Davis allegedly told the deputy that one of the passengers had pulled the vehicle’s emergency brake, causing it to roll.
Court records indicate that Davis then drove away from the scene. The deputy says he caught up to her and activated his car’s emergency lights and pulled over Davis’ car, which he says had a non-functioning middle brake light, to talk with the passengers and make certain there were no injuries due to the rollover.
According to the deputy, Davis said she was taking the youths to the hospital and he advised her to drive to the hospital and he would meet them there.
Once at the hospital, authorities say Davis took the three teens into the hospital and came back out with two of them. Court records indicate that Davis instructed the teens to not give the deputy their names, nor provide any information. Davis then allegedly attempted to flee the scene with two of the teens in her car, allegedly running over the deputy’s foot in the process.
The deputy said he pursued Davis’ car to her residence, where she and both juveniles allegedly ran inside the house, with the deputy in hot pursuit. The deputy says he informed Davis she was under arrest, but she continued to resist arrest, even as the deputy and another officer placed her in handcuffs.
Davis was transported to the Lyon County Jail and booked on charges of: Assaulting an Officer With a Dangerous Weapon (her car), which is a Class D Felony; Interference With Official Acts With a Dangerous Weapon, also a Class D Felony; and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, a Simple Misdemeanor.
