Runaway From Emmet County Youth Facility Found In Boyden

Boyden, Iowa — A runaway from a youth facility in Emmet County was discovered on Friday in Boyden.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the apprehension was made possible when a citizen noticed a vehicle parked in the Boyden Centennial Park in Boyden in the wee hours of Friday morning, where they believed criminal activity had occurred in the past and called authorities.

Deputies went to check on the vehicle and discovered three people in a vehicle; two juveniles and 20-year-old Santana Serr of Dallas, South Dakota, which is near Winner. The Sheriff’s Office tells us all of the occupants were under the age of 21 and in possession of alcohol. Serr was also in possession of a device used to smoke marijuana.

One of the juveniles, a runaway from Forest Ridge Youth Services, in Gruver, Iowa, was transported by Juvenile Court Services to a juvenile holding facility; the other juvenile was released to their parents.

Serr was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possessing alcohol under the age of 21.

The case remains under investigation with the possibility of additional charges for the juveniles.
