Rural Hartley Shed & Contents, Including Three Tractors Destroyed In Fire

Hartley, Iowa — A shed and its contents were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, near Hartley.

According to Hartley Fire Chief Brad Meendering, at about 7:00 p.m., the Hartley Fire Department was called to the report of a shed on fire at 2740 Tyler Avenue, two miles west and four and a half north of Hartley.

The chief says the fire department saw the shed fully engulfed as they approached the scene.

Meendering says no injuries were reported. He says they were assisted by the Melvin and May City fire departments.

According to Meendering, the cause of the fire was probably related to putting an ATV away hot.

Chief Meendering reports that the 40×40′ building was totaled, along with the side-by-side ATV, three tractors, a skid loader, and a grinder.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for a couple of hours.
