Ruthven Woman Faces Felony Meth Charge After Primghar Traffic Stop

Primghar, Iowa — A Ruthven woman has been arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop in Primghar.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 31-year-old Melea Speelmon of Ruthven is accused of the possession of methamphetamine, third or subsequent offense. She was arrested on Sunday.

In his statement, the deputy says that during the stop, Speelmon appeared nervous, and when asked if she had any illegal substances, she indicated that she did, and produced a baggie with a white substance in it that field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Speelmon was charged with possession of meth, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison.

She faces a preliminary hearing on July 8.

At last report, Speelmon remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
