Sanborn, Iowa — A Sanborn area farmer received serious injuries to his legs in a farm accident this week.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office tells us that they received a 911 call in the 11:00 hour Monday, July 8, 2024 for an unknown emergency at 3317 Pierce Avenue, rural Sanborn. Emergency services from the Sanborn Fire Department and Sheldon Ambulance, along with O’Brien County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to the address.

Sanborn Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene first and found 71-year-old Bryon Storm inside a grain bin on the farm. Storm had gotten caught on the inside sweep auger of the grain bin but had freed himself upon emergency services’ arrival.

Sanborn Fire Department personnel and sheriff’s deputies were able to shut the auger system down and remove Storm from the grain bin.

Storm received serious injuries to both of his legs as a result of getting caught in the bin auger. He was transported by Sheldon Ambulance (SCAT) to the Sanford Sheldon Hospital and then airlifted to Sanford Sioux Falls, where, at last report, Storm remained.
