Sanborn, Iowa — The Sanborn Fire Department was called out for a fire near Sanborn on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.
According to Sanborn Fire Assistant Chief Jerry Back, about 5:55 p.m., the Sanborn Fire Department was called to the report of a grass fire near 5888 300th Street, two miles north and almost a mile east of the east side of Sanborn.
The assistant chief says the fire department saw brush piles and the ditch on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.
Assistant Chief Back says no injuries were reported.
He says they believe the cause of the fire was sparks or embers from old burn piles. He says the old piles were burning too, and there was plenty of material to burn.
Assistant Chief Back reports that the damage was limited to brush and other items of little value.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene an hour and a half to two hours.
Back commented on the dry conditions we’ve been having and said, “If we don’t get some rain pretty soon, it’s going to be a long fall.”
