Sanborn Man Escapes Injury In Fatality Crash

Spencer, Iowa – A Sanborn man escaped injury in a two vehicle crash that took the life of a Ruthven man on the northeast edge of Spencer Tuesday morning.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash happened around 9:45 Tuesday morning when a 2014 Toyota Camry, driven by 69-year-old Mone Keoninh of Ruthven was northbound on 240th Avenue, commonly called the East Beltway around Spencer, when he made a left turn onto 340th Street into the path of a 2000 Peterbilt semi, driven by 42-year-old Kevin Hofman of Sanborn, which was southbound on 240th Avenue.

Authorities say Keoninh was transported to the Spencer Municipal Hospital by the Spencer Ambulance, where he was pronounced deceased. Troopers say Hofman escaped injury.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer Fire Department and Spencer Ambulance.
